Deepnude Software 2021 for Windows only (Direct Download Link)

 

A controversial app that took photos of clothed women and stripped them naked may have been shut down, but it hasn't stopped versions of it from cropping up on the internet.

The DeepNude app used artificial intelligence to create realistic-looking nude photos of women - and it was only women, it wasn't designed to work on men.

Someone using  DeepNude would upload a photograph to the app and using various artificial intelligence paradigms, it would reproduce a new photo which had the clothes of the person stripped away.

“Obviously not the actual body of the women in the photograph but an artificial intelligence’s attempt to recreate what it thought that women’s body would look like in that particular photo.”

The app was trained using 10,000 photographs of naked cisgender women.

“It seems probably personal preference and perhaps a commercial decision because of course they were trying to sell this app, rather successfully actually, for up to $US50 a pop.”

Barnes found New Zealand law would cover harmful or use of the photographs.

“For instance, if you blackmail somebody with a photograph of them that’s been synthetically generated, it’s still going to be blackmail. It doesn’t matter if it was created by DeepNude or if it was really taken or if you had no photograph at all and if you slander them or harm their reputation or do harm to their company or things like that, this is all going to still apply.”

The Harmful Digital Communications Act could be helpful to deal with this phenomenon, he says.

“Any communication which can cause harm to somebody, serious harm as assessed in the courts, could be found to cross a line and have a criminal response to it.”

DeepNude may have gone from app stores, but the software was copied because the code was provided as opensource on the internet.

It’s not something you’d want to go for looking for, Barnes says.

“Because of the popularity of the nude, it’s become a place for cyber criminals to store malware, obviously because they know people who go looking for DeepNude are going to download it and may be trepidatious about revealing how they got certain viruses on their computer systems.”

The solution is not going to be entirely legal or technological, he says.

“People need to be aware that these things are going to be proliferating into their lives more and more, especially as we use the internet more and more. They need to be aware that using them is wrong.”
